beijing tour

Hi Colly,
I sent an email before we left China but I'm not sure if you received it. I just wanted to thank you for organising our tour in Beijing. We had a wonderful time and think Kathy was a great guide, with very good English.
We will certainly recommend your company to any friends who visit Beijing.
Regards
Lynn Porus and family (from New Zealand)

Beijing Bike Tours

The bicycle is the most popular means of transportation in China. China is a country "on bicycle wheels". With the world's largest population and largest cycling population, cycling in China is an unparalleled treat to those of us who grew up strapped into the seat of a car. We consider the bicycle the perfect means of transportation since it allows the body to keep pace with the mind.

China impresses many as the kingdom of bicycles. China had 500 million bicycles by 1987. One bicycle for every two people of its population. Bicycles in China are ingrained in every day life and are an important means of transportation and are visible everywhere, which is quite different from that bike-riding is just one way of physical exercise or a sport. It is a life style for Chinese people. This unique bicycle culture has given China the nickname "Bicycle Kingdom". Cycling in China will be the ultimate experience. Bicycles are seen as matchmakers, friends, careers and works of art.

Pu Yi, the Last Emperor of the Qing Dynasty loved bicycles so much that he went so far as to order his servants to saw off the thresholds of the gates to make it more convenient for him to ride his bicycle. Katie Melua described western feelings about bikes in Beijing with her hit song, "Nine Million Bicycles in Beijing". Bicycles give feelings of freedom and of returning to nature. Cyclists can visit ancient sites, and stop and explore things along the way. Cycling neither harms the natural environment nor causes pollution. It is also a convenient way of traveling that is becoming more and more popular.

So let's ride alongside the locals. Explore and discover hidden places you never know before. With knowledgeable and entertaining tour guides, Bicycle Kingdom is ready to show you Beijing that you've never seen.

WARNING!
Cycling in Beijing is safe, however, the site can not hold responsible for any injuries, death, or damages while taking our suggested bike routes. Some route descriptions may be vague and most certainly do not list all possible hazards. Before take this bicycle tour, please bear in mind the route you are taking and refer to our following tips for cycling rules, habits or regulations.

Tips
Despite of the convenience of cycling, take care when you are on your bike mainly because of Beijing's heavy traffic conditions.
Please ware helmets, even helmets can be difficult to find in China as virtually no Chinese cycle with helmets.
Cycling at night should be very carefully, as few Chinese bikes are equipped with lights.

All the vehicles in China run to the right hand side of the road. Most streets or roads in cities have appropriative lanes respectively for motorized and non-motorized vehicles, but in some narrow streets, motorized and non-motorized vehicles run in the same traffic lane. When you are riding a bicycle, be sure to keep to the right hand side of the road. While riding on roads that distinguish between motorized and non-motorized traffic, remember to ride in the non-motorized lane. Red lights require you to stop behind the white line, and green lights mean you can go. And bear in mind that it鈥檚 best to try to avoid the rush hours between 7-9am and 17-19pm.
