Tanzhe Temple : (The Pool and Cudrania Temple)
The Pool and Cudrania Temple, or Tanzhe Si, is situated 45 kilometers west of the city. The Chinese have a centuries old proverb; "First there was the Pool and Cudrania Temple, then came Beijing. During the" Tang Dynasty the grounds were expanded and renamed the Dragon Spring Temple. But Tanzhe Si has been colloquially known as the Pool and Cudrania Temple because of the lovely Dragon Pool and cudrania trees located on the hill behind the temple. During the Ming and Qing dynasties renovation work took place; the temple was built into the landscape and laid out in a beautiful setting. Jietai Temple (Ordination Terrace Temple)
JieTai Temple is located 35km west of Beijing and is only 10km from Tanzhe Temple. JieTaiSi, or 'Ordination Terrace Temple', takes its name from its famous Ming marble ordination altar, built some 1,300 years ago. This altar is nearly 5 meters high and is decorated with exquisite carvings.
The temple was first built in the year 622 during the Tang dynasty but most of the buildings here now date from the Qing dynasty (1644 - 1911).
The temple sits on a hillside looking more like a fortress than a temple, surrounded by forbiddingly tall red walls. On a clear day, this temple offers an unhindered view of Beijing.
Surrounding the main hall are a number of courtyards containing rock formations and ancient twisted pine and cypress trees. It is renowned for its venerable pines - eccentric looking trees growing in odd directions. Indeed, one, leaning out at an angle of about thirty degrees, is pushing over a pagoda on the terrace beneath it.
These ancient trees and are the subject of many songs. It is said that the Chinese Scholar Tree, known as the protector of Buddhism, is more than 1,000 years old.
Other famous trees include the 'Nine Dragon Tree' which has 9 branches that reach up to the sky like 9 flying dragons, and the 'Mobile Tree' which trembles even when only one branch is slightly touched.

The Village is located in Fangshan district, about 40 kilometers southwest of downtown. Before Hancunhe was a very poor village, nowadays Hancunhe is one of the nation's model villages with all its 791 households living in villas and luxury apartment buildings. "With convenient traffic and comfortable living conditions, people like to enjoy the rural life and fresh air. The village used to be very poor, but like many other Chinese villages, Hancunhe became rich after the Open Door Policy was introduced in 1978. Some people believe that the Hancunhe should be a model for other Chinese villages.
History of Han Cun He village:
The history of Han Cun He can be traced back 1,100 years to the time of the Song dynasty (960-1127). Legend has it that there is a famous general named Han who had his tomb built here during the Liao dynasty (906-1125, the southern part of China belonged to Song, and the north was occupied by Liao during this period). In addition, there is a river running through this area and river is pronounced as He in Chinese, hence the name "Han Cun He". The village used to be one of the poorest parts of Beijing before the founding of the PRC. But after the Reform and Opening to the rest of the World in 1978, some small factories were established under the leadership of Mr Tianxiong. Those factories developed very rapid and have made great achievements in the past 20 years. Currently, there are about 3000 people living here, many are past residents of the downtown area, but were charmed by the quaint village and made it their home.

Yunju temple :
The Yunju (or Cloud Dwelling) Temple is situated inside a limestone cave, south of the Shangfang Mountains. It is 70 km from downtown of Beijing, in Fangshan district, south west of the Capital. It came into being up around an ancient shrine. Two bone fragments found at the site were said to belong to Siddhartha Gautama, Buddhism's founder. More than 77,000 engraved wooden blocks containing the Chinese Tripitaka (Buddhist scriptures) draw large crowds to the site.
Description of Yunju temple
Yunju Temple is a Buddhist shrine in north China. Founded in Tang Dynasty, it was expanded or renovated in each of the following dynasties. It reached its heyday in the years of Kangxi and Qianlong reign in Qing Dynasty. It retains 7 pagodas built in Tang Dynasty, 5 built in Liao Dynasty, and 3 tomb pagodas built in Qing Dynasty. The Tang- or Liao-dynasty pagodas were an important integral part of the culture of stone scriptures (Buddhist scriptures inscribed on stone tablets), because they were closely associated with their engraving. On Stone Scriptures Hill are 9 caves for storage of scriptures (except for Leiyin, the 5th cave, on whose walls are fixed stone scripture tablets, all the caves are sealed with iron bolts). There are altogether 4,278 integral stone scripture tablets stored in those caves and the cellar before the south pagoda. The tablets started to be made in 616 A.D. (the 12th year of Daye, Sui Dynasty) by Jingwan, a monk who used to live in Zhiquan Monastery in Youzhou. Fearing recurrences of previous persecutions against Buddhism, he decided to have all Buddhist scriptures carved on stone tablets to be stored in caves for use in the future. The work went on for 1,039 years through Sui, Tang, Liao, Jin, Yuan, and Ming dynasties, and produced 1,122 Buddhist scriptures, in 3,572 volumes. These stone scriptures are based on Canon of Buddhist Writings printed in the years of Kaiyuan in Tang Dynasty and Qidancang printed in Liao Dynasty, two rare editions of Buddhist scriptures. In summary, the stone scriptures at Fangshan provide valuable data for research into the history of Chinese culture, especially in terms of the following fields at various periods in north China: history, politics, economy, geography, culture, calligraphy, sculpture, simplified characters, variant forms of characters, official titles, stone inscriptions, and history of Buddhism. They are not only important relics of the history of Buddhism in China, but also precious heritage of world culture.

Zhou koudian : Peking Man Site
Zhoukoudian is a small village situated in Fangshan district, about 50 km southwest of Beijing. Embraced by a chain of mountains from the northwest and rolling hills from the northeast, the village opens to the vast Huabei plains. One half kilometer north, one finds a narrow pass leading to a basin. Baerhe stream wriggles out of the pass and flows down south. It passes then to the west of Zhoukoudian and finally drains into Liulihe about 10 km south of the village. The Peking Man Site is just on the west side of Zhoukoudian Village.
In December 1929, a Chinese paleoanthropologist named Pei Wenzhong discovered a complete skull of "Peking Man" on Dragon Bone Hill northwest of Zhoukoudian. Later, archaeologists unearthed 40-odd individually fossilized skeletons of "Peking Man", male, female, old and young, all at the same site. Zhoukoudian, therefore, became the most common site for human remains with the most abundant fossils in the world from the same period. The discovery pushed the history of Beijing's civilization back to some 600,000 years. These fossilized remains prove that "Peking Man" was primitive man in an evolutionary process from ancient ape to modern man, and is the ancestor of the Chinese nation. In 1987, the Peking Man Site is listed as one of the world cultural heritage by UNESCO. 聽

Huang hua cheng lakeside Great Wall聽
The Huanghuacheng Lakeside Great Wall Reserve is located in Jiuduhe Town, Huairou District of Beijing City. Some 70 kilometers from downtown Beijing and 35 kilometers from the center of Huairou, it is a unique tourist destination famous for its natural beauties and man-made marvels. the 鈥渇our wonders鈥 of the Reserve are highly recommendable.
A Lake Girdled by the Great Wall鈥: The Huanghuacheng Great Wall was built in 1404 during the reign of Yong Le in the Ming Dynasty. The Wall here is majestic, precipitous, and imposing. It hovers on the towering mountain ridges and girdles the crystal-clear Haoming Lake. Once served not only as the northern gate of the capital city, but also as a screen protecting the 鈥thirteen imperial mausoleums鈥 of the Ming Dynasty, It is the best part of the Ming Great Wall.
A Giant Dragon Probing the Lake鈥: In the Reserve, visitors will be amazed by a view not once, but thrice. The Great Wall goes in and out of the lake at three places, a wonder that can be found nowhere else in China. A poem illustrates the view to the point:
The Great Wall meets the rippling water; Its ancient body is submerged deep under.
The wall in water and the water by wall; What a perfect match by man and nature.
An Age-old Chestnut Garden鈥: The Ming chestnut garden takes up an area of over one hundred mu (15 mu = one hectare) and it shelters more than 40 ancient chestnut trees. These trees have entangled roots and branches but each one stands in its own way. The most amazing sights are thei r massive trunks and extensive canopy. For all their great age and weather-worn bodies, they are still going strong and live up to their name as unique man-made marvels in suburbs of Beijing. A poem hails these trees this way:
The Ming chestnut trees are growing all over the slope;
Though weather-worn they are still steady and graceful.
More than happy they contribute their fruits to the people; Indeed plump the chestnuts enjoy a name in the capital.
A Wonderland of Mountains and Waters鈥: There are more to view in the Reserve. Following the ancient plank road, crossing the wooden bridge, wading through the little stream, and striding over the grotesque rocks, all of a sudden, you find yourself standing in front of the beautiful Black Dragon Pool. Yet, your mind may refuse to let go those equally charming spots on the way: the Longwei Cave, Zicui Peak, Zuinu Hill, Shilang Valley, Lovers鈥 Peak, and triplet pools.
To make the best of the superb geographical condition, the Reserve management has granted the entry of over a dozen entertainment items, both overwater and on land. Among these are several well-established attractions such as the pleasure boat, speedboat, rowboat, water cycle, and overwater speedy descent, and some new funs, including the well-equipped outbound training base, which offers several training items such as the Graduation Wall, Cooperation Bridge, Midair Bar, and High Ladder.  Into the clouds goes the Great Wall鈥檚 gate tower;聽 Embracing the Wall glitters the lake鈥檚 clear water. Miyun Reservoir, located 100 km northeast of Beijing City, is a mountain valley reservoir. It was built in September,1960, and is the largest reservoir in Beijing area. Two main rivers, Chaohe and Baihe, flow into Miyun Reservoir. The catchment is about 15,788 km2, consists of mountains and piedmonts and lacks large industrial enterprises. Sediments and nutrients from agricultural, pastoral and forestry lands that enter the reservoir with overland flow make the main pollution sources.
The initial purpose of building Miyun Reservoir was flood control, irrigation and fishery, but it has become more and more important as a main drinking water storage for Beijing area. The water quality is therefore of great importance. Recently, the nutrient concentration and the number of phytoplankton in the Reservoir are constantly rising to arrest the attention of Beijing municipality. The Longqing Gorge Natural Scenic Area is located 10 kilometers northeast of the county seat of Yanqing. Known as "Lesser Lijiang river outside the Great wall" and "The Small Three gorges of China," it is one of Beijing's top 16 tourist sites. Longqing Gorge covers an area of 119 square kilometers. The main scenic spots include the largest dam in Northern China-a concrete dam more than 70 meters high. Here tourists can see waterfalls in summer and icefalls in winter. It makes a nice day trip from Beijing.
Below is the description of the Longqing Gorge :
Small Three Gorges surpasses the Three Gorges, while its mountain is more dangerous than the Three Gorges鈥.

Small Lijiang River over passes Lijiang River; while its water is clearer than Lijiang River鈥檚. The title: a unique scenic spot beyond the Great wall. It was a visitor who wrote this couplet for Longqing Ravine. Perhaps, it contains historical culture of the scenic spot; perhaps, it is difficult for visitors to show their deep feelings and embodiment completely through this couplet. It is Longqing Ravine that not only contains the gentleness and gracefulness of the southern scenery, but also has the power and loftiness of the northern scenery. It incorporates the strong points of northern and southern scenery and becomes a bright pearl beyond the Great Wall 鈥︹︹

Water is like green ribbon and mountain as emerald hairpin.

If visiting Longqing Ravine by boat, you will feel that you hands gently unwrap a roll of landscape, along with gentle breeze blowing against your face at Lijiang River, you are completely immersed in a picturesque scene.

The different mountains are arranged with winding and cragginess, called their names in accordance with shapes and the implied meaning of the shape. more than 30 scenic spots are created by nature鈥檚 vicissitude and super craftsmanship, such as: mountain-guarded Buddha, Bell Mount, Phoenix Island, East Tachai and Moon Gulf. The scenic spots are attached with human feelings, so they have human personality and spiritualism. Green waves and clean stream hover zigzagly, with its color as thick forests鈥 and softness as fabrics鈥, shadow of birds and mountains and cloud mirroring in water. Water flows around mountains, with a feeling of 鈥 when reaching the cliff, you have doubt there is no road, while there is another sky after cloud disappearing".

The climate in midsummer is cool, with fresh air. The temperature is 6 degrees lower than that of the urban area of Beijing, even 0.8 degrees lower than that of Chengde Mountain Resort. It is extremely cold in midwinter, with longer ice age. Therefore, it creates ice lantern art鈥攅xotic flowers, gorge, an ice-carving world, and an northland ice-snow paradise. The footprint of history and ancient temples brush a layer of ancient copper for the beautiful scenery, making it more ancient, deep and quiet. The gods yard towers in hills and mountains, standing at the peak of the alone mountain. Elegance of temples in Ming dynasty reproduced here in 1998.

Among cloud and misty, and thick forests, layers of steps pile up according to mountains; palaces and towers row upon each other; emerald green tile and red wall reflect each other. 鈥︹.

Jade Emperor Peak, where you can view other mountains, has solemn main cabinet with repeat brims and nine ridges. One once wrote鈥斺 thousands of peaks appear in front of me, and thousands of gullies are low when turning back my head.鈥 Relying on the fence to view, you will find gorges flowing deviously and its dangerous situation. If you watch all the scenery, you will find billows of peaks seem to pour and misty smoke rises from mountains. You will have the feeling of flying by riding wind to return. Giants Temple in the gorges hide between the south Giants Mountain and north Giants Mountain. Forest is deep and gully is quiet, with fresh environment. The eaves of the temple fly in the sky, with carved and green tile, towering towers, and red columns as well as carved rafter. The ancient temple hides in the mountains, tolling spreading in the empty valley. There are many legends in Longqing Ravine, which romances fancy magnificence and misted suspense.

Longqing Ravine constructed amusement facility, which is in harmony with the rhythm of the landscape. Gorge mouth, a megalosaurus with length of 258 meters, hangs in thousands of cliffs with the way of head down and trail up, along with sparking squama and flying beards and claws. This is the dragon shape lift which was rated as the first lift in Asian. Visitors arrive slipway immediately by taking the life unconsciously. You can鈥檛 help trying rapid-sliding ropeway flying in the air and exciting bungee. If you take on cable car, you quickly reach Jade Emperor Peak and have a dream that you are like god. If you cross 300-meters flowers cavity, you have already crossed over the Southland and northland, visiting all scenery in the four seasons. Chinese Mountaineering Association (CMA) prepared to construct and named Longqing Ravine as CMA Longqing Ravine rock- climbing and ice-climbing training base. It successfully held 鈥淟ongqing Ravine Cup鈥 national 7th rock--climbing tournament, letting more Chinese vigilant fighters challenge life limit. Finally, riding Foster wing-to-wing slideway crossed the mouth of valley is like riding beautiful rainbow. There is no risk in wind, envision and shock, then returning the reality from Longwing Ravine鈥檚 fairyland.

Longqing Ravine has first-class service facility, with completed facility and excellent service. It is able to offer accommodation and visitors can have dinner, hold meeting and have fun here.

Since its open in 1984, Longqing Ravine has already received over ten millions of visitors at home and abroad, including leaders of the country and the Party, such as Jiang Zemin, Li Peng, Hu Jintao, Liu Huaqing, Chen Muhua, etc., and foreign friends, such as the Seychelles president, etc. Important figures left epigraphy and inscription to commemorate by the will.

The East Tombs are the largest and most complete complex of imperial tombs in China. Of these, the Yuling mausoleum of Emperor Qian Long and Dingling mausoleum of Emperor Dowager Ci Xi are the most magnificent. But in 1928 the underground palaces were blown open by warlord Sun Dianying, many precious articles were looted and the tombs suffered heavy damage.

Scenery around the East Tombs is most beautiful. Qing government rules designated the tomb area as geomantically favorable and forbidden to people. Fifteen tombs are arranged from east to west along the southern foot of Changduan Mountain. Behind the tombs are rolling hills and in front is a long spirit path. Along the central axis of the complex form a unique natural scene is presented as the temples and palatial structures, with red walls and golden tiles among pines and cypresses of verdant green, glitter in the sunshine. They seem as islets dotting a vast green sea. The Dragon Beard Ditches of each tomb, large and small, zigzag and coil like dragons; streams under stone bridges are like white belts through the forest of pines and cypresses. In early morning or late afternoon one can see through green branches and leaves the beamed eaves, pavilions and garrets, stone sculptured human figures and stone animals appearing through the foliage to be draped in thin yellowish gauze kerchiefs.

Qing West Imperial Tomb
Four of the Qing-dynasty imperial tombs are located some 120 kilometers to the west of Beijing, in Hebei Province. These are known as Xiling or Western Tombs. This is where Emperor Yongzheng selected a site and began to erect his resting place. Eventually the location came to include the burials of three empresses, four emperors, and a number of princes, altogether 76 people in fourteen tomb groupings. Above-ground extant buildings occupy 50,000 square meters.
The organization of Xiling or Western Tombs is similar to the Eastern. Yongzheng's tomb, called Tailing, sits in the middle. The others are arrayed to his east and west. The spirit way leading up to Tailing is five Ii in length, or nearly two miles, and sculptures on either side are impressive. In the neighboring area twenty-one of Yongzheng's concubines are buried, also his empress, the blood mother of Qianlong.
To the west of the Tailing tomb of Yongzheng are two imperial groupings, one of which belongs to Emperor Daoguang. This includes buildings that are unique for not being painted but rather carved in dragon designs from nanmu wood. The dragons cover every inch of space on the ceiling, and the pillars and beams are alive with swimming dragons, coiled dragons, vigorous dragons.
To the east of Tailing is the most recent tomb among the western-tomb groupings, which was built for Guangxu and his empress. It is called Chongling. Groundbreaking began in the first year of Xuanzong (1909) and the work was completed in the fourth year of Minguo (1915). This was the last imperial tomb among all of China's imperial tombs and it holds Guangxu and his empress. This was robbed in early years, but when restoration and research of the site began in 1980 some jades and pieces of silk were found. Near the Chongling tomb are the tombs of various concubines.
All of these tombs have been declared National Key Cultural Relics Protected sites, and are listed also as World Heritage Cultural Sites.

Putuo Zongcheng Temple
The Putuo Zongcheng Temple is part of the "Eight Outer Temples" located in Chengde, which are part of the World Heritage List along with Chengde's Mountain Resort. The Putuo Zongcheng Temple was originally dedicated to Qianlong in order to commemorate his birthday, as well as provide Hebei with a temple of equal size and splendor as the Tibetan Potala Palace. The Putuo Zongcheng temple served more functions than just Buddhist ceremony and festival, however. It was also the location that the emperor would gather meetings of different ethnic envoys found throughout the empire. The location served as a peaceful getaway in contrast to the bustling life of the capital Beijing, as well as complimented the nearby hunting grounds that the emperor would enjoy with his hosts.
As of 1994, the Chengde Mountain Resort and Chengde's Eight Outer Temples (including the Putuo Zongcheng Temple) were established as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Today, the temple remains a site of tourism and local festivities.
Pule Temple

The Pule Temple is located on a hillock 1 km to the east of the Wulie River in the east of Mountain Resort of Chengde City, Hebei Province.
The Pule Temple is one of Eight Outer Temples in Chengde City. The place, where the Pule Temple is located, used to be a flat ground. People could see mountains around the Mountain Resort. Following the advice of a Tibetan Living Buddha, Emperor Qianlong built the temple in 1766. The temple is made up of the front hall, side halls and the massacre city. The front hall, called the Zongyin Hall, houses Buddha of Infinite Longevity and other Trikala Buddhas with warrior attendants standing on both sides of each Buddha. There is an altar in the back, with a height of 35.5 meters. It is divided into 3 layers. The 1st and 2nd layers are square stone platforms. There are 3 rooms in the 1st layer and 72 hallways around it. There are 4 doors in four different directions in the 2nd layer. There are 8 Lama pagodas in four corners and four directions. The pagodas in the four corners are yellow and four pagodas in four directions are black, green, purple and white, respectively. The stone fences around the 3rd layer are carved with dragon-and-cloud patterns. The Xuguang Pavilion in the middle of the 3rd layer is 23 meters high with a diameter of 21.68 meters. The multi-eaved roof is covered with glazed tiles, similar with that of the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvest in the Heaven Temple, Beijing. The sunk panel of 4 layers in the hall is extremely exquisite. There are inner and outer circles in the 1st and 2nd layers. Pictures of 6-character incantation are carved on the outer circle of the 1st layer and a gilding cloud pattern made of wood appears in the inner circle. A gilding dragon pattern appears in the outer circle of the 2nd layer, and a gilding peacock pattern appears on the inner circle. Lotus pattern is carved on the 3rd layer. A huge dragon with tremendous momentum, looking down, pearl in its mouth and clouds around it appears in the 4th layer. The sunk panel in the Xuguang Pavilion is one of the most exquisite sunk panels of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
No Lamaists live in the temple at peacetime. Lamaists from other temples will get together to chant scriptures on the 1st and 15th of the first lunar month.
Puning Temple

The Puning Temple is located among the mountains to the north of the Mountain Resort of Chengde City in Hebei Province.
The Puning Temple is one of the famous Eight Outer Temples in Chengde City, Hebei Province. The Eight Outer Temples were constructed from the 52nd year (1713) of Emperor Kangxi's reign to the 45th year (1780) of Emperor Qianlong's reign. Originally there were 11 temples, but now there are only seven temples and one relic left, which are collectively called the Eight Outer Temples. There are the Puren Temple, the Pule Temple, the Anyuan Temple and the Pushan Temple (the only existing relic) to the east of the Mountain Resort; the Puning Temple, the Xumi Fushou Temple, the Putuo Zongsheng Temple and the Shuxiang Temple to the north of the Mountain Resort. All these temples are resplendent and magnificent, dotting the Mountain Resort like a myriad of stars surrounding the moon. If the halls and palaces of the Mountain Resort are the symbol of an emperor's reign, then the numerous temples represent different regions or ethics, which have different political and historical background. These temples and the Mountain Resort together form a picture that symbolizes national integrity and ethical unity.
The Puning Temple was constructed in the 20th year (1755) of the Qianlong reign. In order to celebrate the suppression of rebellion of Junggar tribe, Emperor Qianlong invited the four troops that participated in the suppression to the Mountain Resort in October in the 20th year of the Qianlong reign. He dubbed leaders of the four troops, and ordered to build the Puning Temple.
The Puning Temple is of grand scale, occupying an area of more than 23,000 square meters. The main structure in the temple is the Hall of Great Buddha. The hall is 36.75 meters high, and has six storeys and multiple eaves. The top of the hall is a gold-plated dome. The hall, full of power and grandeur, is a representative of the architectural style of Chinese temples and mosques. A Bodhisattva statue with thousands of hands and eyes is enshrined in the hall. The statue, 21.85 meters in height and 110 tons in weight, is carved out of wood and plated with gold. It sits on a locus throne of 2.22 meters high. The statue has 42 hands, two of which clamp together and the rest with different musical instruments in them. The statue, with its dignified manner, is one of the famous large-scale wood-carved Buddha statues in China. The Hall of Great Buddha emblematizes Sumeru, and the Hall of Day Light, the Hall of Moon Light on the two sides of the Hall of Great Buddha symbolize day and moon respectively. There are black, red, white and green pagodas and eight white high terraces on the four sides of the Hall of Great Buddha. All around the hall there are other Tibetan constructions, such as pagodas and terraces. Besides the Hall of Great Buddha, there are the Miaoyan Room and the Hall of Scripture Preaching, where Qing emperors listened to the preaching and had a rest. Three stone tablets are preserved in the Puning Temple. The whole building complex of the Puning Temple mixed the artistic style for Han, Tibetan and Indian architectures, and formed the typical image of a Buddha World with Buddha statues as its main body, holding an important position in the history of Chinese architecture.
